Event Details

The MB SKETCH FEST is an annual ON-THE-SPOT drawing/sketching contest organized by the MANILA BULLETIN.


I. REGISTRATION
A. Pre-event Registration
• Participants may pre-register starting July 2, 2018 and fill out an entry form available at www.mb.com.ph/mbsketchfest
• Registration cut-off is on August 17, 2018 at 12 noon.
• Print out the registration ticket and present it to the registration booth together with one valid I.D. on August 27, 2018 at SM Mall of Asia Music Hall.
• Pre-registered participants should be present on August 27, 2018 at SM Mall of Asia Music Hall by 7 a.m.

B. On-site Registration
• Contestants may also register on the day of the event from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
• On-site registrants must fill out an entry form and present one valid I.D. upon registration.

II. CONTEST RULES/MECHANICS:

A. The Manila Bulletin will be providing the official sketching paper (30cm x 45cm) for all categories upon registration.
B. All participants should bring their own sketching and drawing tools dry media only. Painting is not allowed. Only Kiddie participants shall be provided with pencils, erasers, and crayons.
C. Participants will be given five (5) hours, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on that day to do their artworks based on their interpretation of the theme, “BAYANIJUAN.”
D. Participants must work on their drawings only within the designated event area.
E. All artworks submitted for judging shall become the property of the Manila Bulletin, which is in no obligation to return them.
F. Only entries drawn/sketched during the contest day shall be considered valid entries.
G. There will be three (3) winners in each category.
H. Judging period will be at 3:30 p.m. with the presence of a DTI representative. Announcement of winners and awarding of prizes will follow immediately.
I. A 20% tax on prizes exceeding ₱10,000 shall be shouldered by the winners.
J. Aside from cash prizes, winners will also be featured in the Manila Bulletin.
K. Employees of The Manila Bulletin and SM including their relatives up to second degree of consanguinity or affinity are not eligible to enter the contest.

• SENIOR (19 years old and above)

Originality 25%

Senior:
1st place ₱ 30,000 PHP + MB loot bag
2nd place ₱ 15,000 PHP + MB loot bag
3rd place ₱ 10,000 PHP + MB loot bag


Junior:
1st place ₱ 10,000 PHP + MB loot bag
2nd place ₱ 7,000 PHP + MB loot bag
3rd place ₱ 5,000 PHP + MB loot bag

Kiddie:
1st place ₱ 5,000 PHP + MB loot bag
2nd place ₱ 3,000 PHP + MB loot bag
3rd place ₱ 2,000 PHP + MB loot bag

Manila Bulletins’ Choice ₱10,000 + MB loot bag*

EXHIBITION CATEGORY
A. This category is open to participants 16 years old and above. Artist must submit their artwork and filled out registration form at the Manila Bulletin, Muralla cor. Recoletos Sts., Intramuros, Manila from June 12 to August 11, 2018 (Monday - Friday 9 a.m.-5p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m.-12noon). Each artist must submit only one (1) entry. Artworks should be original and based on the theme “BAYANIJUAN.”
B. This category is open to any medium. Entries should be 18” x 24” size in any orientation (portrait or landscape), wall bound and ready to hang.

Adherence/Consistency with the theme 40%
Creativity and Composition 35%
Originality 25%

C. An entry will be disqualified in case of the following:
• Not following the given requirements including size, material, and age
• Works that discriminate any group, culture, beliefs, and integrity of others
• Works using any dangerous, illegal/prohibitive, hazardous materials
• Works which are fragile or brittle
• Unfinished works including wet works
• Works with incomplete documentation


D. Participants can only win once under this category. Participants who did not make it to the Top 20 may join the on-the-spot category, subject to the Manila Bulletin’s registration requirements and mechanics.
E. Twenty (20) semi-finalists will be chosen on August 15, 2:00 p.m. with the presence of a DTI representative at the Manila Bulletin main office located on Muralla cor. Recoletos Sts., Intramuros, Manila. These artworks will be exhibited during the event.
F. The Top 20 semi-finalist will be announced via Manila Bulletin Facebook page (www.mb.com.ph/manilabulletin) and will also be notified through registered mail.
G. There will be three (3) winners from each category.
H. All winning artworks, including the Top 20 finalists, will automatically become the property of the Manila Bulletin and the ownership, copyright and the intellectual property rights pertaining to the winning artwork including the Top 20 finalists, shall be deemed automatically assigned to the Manila Bulletin without any payment or reimbursement for the value thereof.
I. Judging period will be at 3:30 p.m. with the presence of a DTI representative on August 27 at SM Mall of Asia, Music Hall. Announcement of winners and awarding of prizes will follow immediately.
J. A 20% tax of prizes exceeding ₱10,000 shall be shouldered by the winners.

2nd place ₱30,000 PHP + MB loot bag
3rd place ₱20,000 PHP + MB loot bag

K. Aside from cash prizes, winners will also be featured in the Manila Bulletin.
L. Winners must bring one (1) valid I.D. to claim their prizes. Claiming of prizes will be during the awarding on August 27, 2018 at Music Hall, SM Mall of Asia, Pasay City. Unclaimed prizes may be claimed at the Manila Bulletin main office located on Muralla cor. Recoletos Sts., Intramuros, Manila until 60 days from receipt of the registered mail (except Saturdays and Sundays) from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. upon presentation of valid I.D. and confirmation mail from the organizer.

RETRIEVAL OF ENTRIES
A. All artworks which do not qualify as 20 semi-finalists must be retrieved from the Manila Bulletin Head Office, Muralla cor. Recoletos Sts., Intramuros, Manila from September 3 to November 26, 2018 or 60 days after the August 27, 2018 event (except Saturdays and Sundays) from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
B. The artist must present the Retrieval Pass and valid identification card to the authorized Manila Bulletin personnel to claim his/her entry.
C. Entries not collected on designated dates shall automatically become property of the Manila Bulletin, including the copyright and all intellectual property rights thereof.
